Jal Mahal Palace

Jal Mahal is also known as Water Palace, which is situated on the middle of the Man Sagar Lake in the Jaipur City. The Palace and lake around the Jal Mahal were renovated in the 18th century by Maharaja Jai Singh II. The Jal Mahal Palace according to its name it is a fabulous palace which is floating on water. It is located at a distance of 6.5 kms away from Pink City. This palace is standing inside the Man Sagar Lake. The Man Sagar Lake was formed by constructing a dam between the two hills by Sawai Man Singh. This is a best example of Rajputs architecture. The atmosphere of this palace always remains cool as it is situated inside the lake as well as also accompanied by the hills around the lake. In earlier days it was a spot for the members of Royal families to shoot ducks from this palace.

This is a five storey palace, out of which the first four floors are located under water, only the top floor of this palace enjoys the sunshine and rain. Even after the 200 years of construction, still its architectural beauty is the same as it was before. This palace looks fabulous from the Nahargarh fort. Jal Mahal got its identity in the year 1799. The red stones of the palace look very beautiful during the monsoon season. The palace looks very beautiful from the Man Sagar Lake from where the flock of birds can be seen. One can find the shrines of the Royal families on the back side of this palace. The Mansagar Lake is also a bird watcher paradise as it serves as the home of a variety of local as well as migratory birds. Eco system of Man Sagar Lake is a favorite home for many resident and migratory birds. The Man Sagar dam is located on the eastern side of lake and it also provides a good scenic beauty to the lake and the valley. The best architecture inside the lake cannot be missed out. The architecture of the palace is very impressive.

Visitors are only allowed to see the Palace from a distance. Entry is not allowed in the palace. It is among one of best attractions of Jaipur which is known for its architectural beauty and the settings in the surroundings. This Mahal was built for the royal duck shooting parties. It is one of the best examples of Rajput architectural beauty and the technical excellence. The palace seems very beautiful in the evening as the entire complex looks like bathed in flood lights. Hundreds of migratory birds can be seen swimming in winters in the Man Sagar Lake. The view of the Jal Mahal is eye catching. Rajput styled wooden boats have been created by the traditional boat makers of Vrindavan. The view of the Aravalli hills which has many temples and forts on it, can be seen across the lake. The shadow of Jal Mahal in the water of Man Sagar Lake looks amazing. The destiny doesn’t give every person a chance to explore the out of the world creations. So, to go crazy plan a trip to Jaipur where the single glimpse of the palace soothes the eyes.

Other royal dignitaries were invited by Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh to this palace at leisure time. There are some beautiful gardens and Rajputs architectural styles walls situated to the south of the Man Sagar Lake, which are waiting for enthusiastic travelers. The Chameli Garden is the most attractive place in the Jal Mahal. It is open for public viewing from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm. The best time to plan a trip to Jal Mahal is in the month of October or March. This is the best time when tourists gather here in large number to experience the royal ambience of the palace.
