Jaipur Rugs is one of the leading company in Jaipur which is famous for its rugs all over the world. It was founded by N. K. Chaudhary in 1978, starting the carpet business with two looms. Over time he moved to Gujarat and the business operations were expanded primarily in tribal regions. Mr. N K Chaudhary moved to Jaipur in 1999, to launch his independent firm called Jaipur Carpets. Jaipur Carpets was converted to Jaipur Rugs Company Pvt Ltd in 2006. At present Jaipur rugs has businesses in more than 30 countries and touched a turnover of over 14 million $ in 2008-09.
Jaipur Rugs Foundation (JRF)
It is an initiative of Jaipur Rugs Company. It is a voluntary, non-profit and secular organization, registered under Public Trust Act, which was established in response to the growing needs in the development sector to organize people at grass root level for alleviating poverty by significantly enhancing their income.
JRF was founded by Mr. N. K. Chaudhary, a leading entrepreneur of hand knotted carpets with a purpose to organize carpet weaving artisans at grass root level and build up their capacity so that they may have decent earnings and lead a dignified life. JRF came into existence in the year 2004 and in last six years it has established itself as one of the leading voluntary organizations in India.
JRF works with more than 40,000 artisans across the carpet value chain in 10 states in India. Some of the milestones achieved by them include providing sustainable livelihoods to thousands of artisans, improvement in payment terms, and eradication of child labor from carpet industry, popularizing carpet in nontraditional areas, organizing artisans in SHG and producer companies for financial security, promotion of artisan forum etc. JRF has evolved a model of poverty reduction and in the next 5 years time, they plan to reach out to 100,000 artisans along with their families.
