Bharatiya Janta Party
As the dominant majority party in Indian, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is also the predominant political party in Jaipur. As a center-right Hindu party, the BJP focuses on nationalist policies, including a strong national defense and foreign policy, as well as conservative social policy. The party has grown rapidly since its founding in 1980, and is currently chaired by Rajnath Singh.
In the Jaipur district, the BP has won twelve of the last 14 parliamentary elections. Considered the Lok Sabha district, BJP MP Girdhari Lal Bhargava currently represents the district, winning six re-elections since 1989.
Within Jaipur, there are also 19 local Legislative districts within Rajasthan. Local representative Bhairon Singh Shekhawat is the locally elected representative, and has been re-eleced three times. Locally, the municipality of Jaipur (JMC) is governed by mayor Pankah Joshi, who is officially unaffiliated with any party.
